Summary The snow goose

In spring 1930, there was a man who bought a lighthouse at the mouth of Aelder. The man was called Philip Rhayader. He was a painter of birds and nature, who had withdrawn from all human society. Other people hate him, because he was ugly. He lived with the birds and he liked it. One day there came a girl. She was 12 years old and in her arms she carried a goose. The goose was shot by a hunter. The girl, who was called Frith, was in the beginning a little scared of Rhayader. But later she noticed he was a very nice man. She came back a pair of times. After the bird was recovered, they realeased it. After one year Philip hoped the goose came back but it didn’t. But after two years the goose came back. He alarmed Frith directly. Philip made the goose very tame.

In spring 1940 the world was in war. Rhayader would go with a sailboat to Dunkirk, where a British army was trapped in the sands, the were in need. He would try to help them. Frith would go with him, but she can’t because then one less soldier could go back with the boat. The man were huddled on the beach like birds. Philip went to Dunkirk, but was shot. He was dead. Firth remained alone at the lighthouse, taking care of the pinioned birds.
